Pumpjack

(Or, "What I Did On My Holidays In Bakersfield"…).

No, I don't expect anyone to get all the way through this one. And yes, it has a soundtrack, which needs to be heard loud with a good sound system.

I did it! I did it! But if only you had made it with that tilt/shift effect then it would have been ART! That's not some cheap gimmicky technique that turns very ordinary images into something momentarily attractive, it's a whole new way of seeing!

I really did get into it even though it was just through my Imac speakers. Nicely edited too.

S. — ta. I'm so tempted to do an art version… (art is what happens in post, I guess). And isn't art "some cheap gimmicky technique that turns very ordinary images into something momentarily attractive"? Or maybe it's just what makes me laugh….

Yeh, i made it through, although i seemed to be watching it for 3 or 4 hours... Glad you didn't 'lip-synch'- only the first image seemed to be tuned to that crazy rithem (see? i did watch it all). Dunno about the art/non-art chat - i like when i can't (or won't) tell if there's even supposed to be a difference. These machines, they're so desperate, it's such a horribly desperate human action - like when you stop at traffic lights and someone's digging away at their face. Deeper and deeper, but don't go too deep! Good luck HR Jimmy - Garraidh

Gary — thanks (you're still out there? My last email to you bounced some time ago…). I think I prefer "mesmerising" to "desperate", but never mind — it's incredibly difficult to not anthropomorphise these things when you;re surrounded by them…

(And true completists can see the much bigger YouTube version here).
